Aaaaaaand it's Saturday. I genuinely only just realised a minute ago - i.e. at 18:45. Which, obviously, is not a good thing, because that gives me ten minutes to write a post... or wait an hour and a half til I'm free again.
Sorry, hectic work week - shop is open 16 hours a day, and we only have 5 full time staff... so, bit low on free time... speaking of which, I'm spending next weekend down in Stevenage, so if you next week's post is a bit late... there's your reason.
Anyway, what've I got for you? A brief update on the League - sorta - and some musings on a new campaign...
Oh, and the knowledge that I now do Magic: the Gathering. However, I've not had a chance to do much more than buy the starter kit and personalise my deck slightly, so... yeah. I'll let you know when I actually do something.
League update - well, Feora and Kraye had a practice fight, and this one went a lot better... it ended with a draw, but I finished with more points (and less casualties). 19 point game, so I had added the Black 13th to my list, along with a unit of Rangers. Who swiftly proved themselves immensely useful, helping the 13th take down a unit of Exemplar Errants in two turns. Meanwhile, Kraye's battlegroup found the extra room to manoeuvre deadly. We'd been using half boards so far, but one the full sized thing he was very much able to run rings around the Menite Heavy 'jacks.
And, afterwards we fought an 11 point fight, wherein he beat pMagnus and Thyra... turns out, not engaging until it is absolutely necessary is very beneficial.
... Alright, so, that just leaves us the musings... so, I've had this thought for a campaign. Yes, another one, but less than other ones... basically, I watched Guardians of the Galaxy the other week, and decided that it'd be awesome to run a campaign in that setting... but, well, I'm not as much a Marvel buff as I'd need to be to run it... and neither are my friends really.
So, I settled for a campaign with the same sorta theme, and dynamic. Mercs, in space, weird stuff happens, and everyone is pretty average when they're not called upon to be badass... so, he's a basic idea for the system:
We take the Star Wars d20 system, and tweak it slightly. The game will be set in the outer-rim somewhere around 400BBY, and there will be no force-sensitives allowed. Everyone plays a mercenary, and the first major quest will be our attempts to find a way off-world; ending with us stealing/buying/building a ship.
So, the difference will be the way we use Action Points...or Plot Points, or Badass-ittude. Whatever you wanna call them. Basically, new rule - everyone starts a session with 1, and can earn more by doing something cool. Not the regular cool - killing an enemy won't count. I mean something especially cool - punching-out the big bad with, drop-kicking a mook off a bridge, picking up a pistol and one-shotting the enemy boss. Stuff like that, along with more mechanical junk - critical hits, levelling up, completing major objectives in your quests, you know...
Now, here's what they're for - cinematic combat. Stuff that in a regular RPG would be damn-near impossible for you; sprinting along a girder, leaping to a dangling chain, and unleashing a fusillade of bullets while you slide down... Spend a point, and you automatically do it. You'll have to roll to hit still, but you'll not have to take a balance check, then a jump check, a climb check, and then take a massive penalty on the to-hit roll... It will have limits - no insta-killing everyone in the room with a sword you've never held... but, you can use a point to avoid any 'untrained' penalties for a turn or two...
It's still an idea in it's infancy, but I think it could be our next campaign. Just something light-hearted and fun - a pulpy romp around the galaxy, shooting lasers and earning money that is swiftly spent on flashier guns and bigger hats... Like Freebootaz without the funny accent.
So, that's me. How're you?
... I did not think that through... Volodanti out.
