But, yes - time for a new model! Well, unit, but... I want to show you their sergeant most. Cos, I put the most effort into him - both as a painter, and a modeler. Why? Well, let me show you...So, here we have him unpainted, and you can already see the difference - the massive... thing he's meant to be holding has been replaced by an improved halberd - well, I say improved, to my mind it sorta looks like a prototype. It requires an external power source, the lightning coils are much larger and in greater number, and it requires a separate coil to propel the electricity... and I like it that way. If I could, I'd use him in Iron Kingdoms - Morrow I make too many IK characters - and just convert the stormblade sergeant... which is fitting, cos I don't think the Stormblade sergeant fits the unit. I'd probably use a Stormblade Standard Bearer and swap out off hand - but, that's work for another day...
So, the conversion itself - how'd it go? Badly. I attempted to pin it myself - which I put a lot of effort into, but was stymied by the fact I wasn't actually using a pin drill... so, in the end, I had to throw out some ruined parts and ask my friend (the one who made the Hammersmith as awesome as it is). And do you know, he's done an awesome job. Genuinely happy with the result... so, cheers for that.
As to the paint job... this was a learning experience. In contrast to Nemo, I started out painting him silver, and then realised I'd prefer him blue... well, or at least I realised all the little blue bits I'd put on looked much better on him... so, blue it was. Took a hell of a long time to finish though - and even longer for the unit/On the whole then? I'm pleased with him.I'll probably give him a once-over later this month when I've recovered to fix the problems I have with him... such as his hands. I didn't think they looked enough like gauntlets to paint them blue, so I made them brown leather... and it just blurs into the weapon's shaft... which reminds me - the weapon itself... I tried to alternate between Mechanikal-brass and Voltaic-copper, but... it just looked weird. I'd definitely be re-doing that...
... but not for a while. I'm burnt out. This month, I'm gonna do my painting evenly over the weeks, rather than rushing 8 stormguard out over 4 days...
... no matter how proud I am of that achievement...Anyways, I ought to thank you for reading, and tell you to tune in next time when I promise to have something new... possibly what I've been doodling these last few days.
Volodanti out.
